I was reading an article today about Tiger Woods being the 2009 Leading Money Winner earning $10,508,163.  If this was his annual salary and he worked a 40 hour week, it would be $5,052/.hr. The 1934 Leading Money Winner was Paul Runyan earning $6767. The price of gold in 1934 was $35/oz vs. $1144/oz today. That is a 3300% increase, but its 155200% increase in leading money winners during the same time period.

My favorite PGA event is the Masters. I have been watching this tournament for the last 35 years. The purse in 1934 was $5,000 vs. $7,500,000 in 2009.  The winner in 1934 received $1,000 vs. $1,350,000 this year.  In 1934 gas was .10/gal vs. $2.51/gal today. Boy how things have changed!
