As I get older, I would like to set some goals of pushing by body to certain limits.I am considering running a 1/2 marathon in the near future. I am even entertaining competing in a triathlon at the age of 50, 3 years from now, but for now I want to focus on the 1/2 marathon. I never ran in this environment before. Currently I am only jogging 3 miles a day, so I have a ways to go. If anyone has any advice from shoes, diet, programs, progression or goals, I welcome all feedback.

A high carb diet helps you store fuel for your run.

When you start training for a 10k spend weeks before the race gradually adding miles, your best bet is to find a group of runners that are either running at your pace or faster.... be able to run more than 6.2 miles.....8-10 would be better...also the last 3/4 mile .. Sprint it like you were a Kenyan in a former life!!! I run at least 2 a year... I can do it under an hour. depending on the weather and its a blast!!
Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate -- especially in the evenings and after a run (water is best). And MOST of ALL ...... HAVE FUN!!!

I agree with Melissa, I used www.halhigdon.com for both my marathon and half-marathon. It worked like a charm!!

Thanks Steve and Melissa! I think I will give it a try. I am the type of guy that needs a guide, so this should work well for me.
