Lemonade Day is a citywide program that is designed to teach youth ages K-12 how to start, own and operate their own lemonade business. Through a fun, interactive curriculum, participants are trained in the fundamentals of sound business and financial management. Youth learn how to create budgets, secure investors, select a site, purchase supplies, serve customers, set profit-making goals, repay investors, and give back to the community.
In collaboration with the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology (CCAT), our vision for this program is to create meaningful, sustainable change in some of the underprivileged neighborhoods in Connecticut by integrating life skills, character building, and entrepreneurship to produce financially literate youth who positively impact their communities. We are piloting this program in East Hartford on June 6, 2010, and our goal is to raise at least $20,000, which is the minimum cost to expand Lemonade Day to the city of Hartford in 2011.
